In the Askizsky district of the Khakass Republic, the Abakan – Bolshoi Orton – Tashtagol motorway with a connection to Mezhdurechensk is being constructed. Two sections totalling over 9 kilometres have been commissioned between 2005 and 2008. At present, the construction of a 7-km-long section is in progress and it is scheduled to be completed in 2011. The new road, in addition to improving the transport and economic ties of the Khakass Republic with neighbouring regions, will connect 12 towns of the Askiz district and provide a link with the republic capital.
