Sergei Sobyanin has opened a transit overpass on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway. It is the first renovation project between the intersection of Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway and the border of Moscow.
“We will continue to gradually open the planned projects on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway,” the Mayor said. “The renovation of the motorway is a major construction project in Moscow. This includes the renovation of 25 kilometres of roads, two large interchanges, two transit overpasses and over 20 kilometres of designated public transport lanes. Taken together, this makes it a vital facility for the development of the transit system in the north of the Moscow Region.”
The transit overpass will ease morning traffic on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway for residents of the Severny (Northern) District of Moscow, the Mytishchi District of the Moscow Region and other users. It will also improve the environment.
“There used to be traffic signals and hence traffic congestion on the motorway. The overpass, which we have built, will remove obstacles to free movement from the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway and the residents of the Severny District,” Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin said. He added that the renovation project provides for removing nearly all of the traffic signals on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway.
Mr Khusnullin said the construction of an overpass on the intersection with the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway began in 2013 and was to be completed by November 2014, but the project was finished ahead of schedule.

The renovation project for the section between the intersection with the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway and the border of Moscow provides for building two transit overpasses along the main road of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway (the second overpass is located near the village of Vinogradovo), two side roads along the main road, and inbound and outbound roads to nearby residential developments, as well as two surface pedestrian crossings and 10 public transport stops.
“I hope that the bulk of the project on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway from MKAD to Severny will be completed in November,” Sergei Sobyanin said.
The project provides for building 8.3 kilometres of roads and 2.08 kilometres of sound walls. It was launched in March 2012 and should be completed by 2015.
The renovation of the section between the intersection with the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway and the border of Moscow is part of a larger project to renovate the Dmitrovskoye Motorway.
It includes building a two-level intersection with the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway (the overpass opened on 5 September 2013) and the renovation of the intersection on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway and the MKAD. The first part of the intersection — a left turn on the inbound lane of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway to the internal (east-bound) side of the MKAD — opened on 17 June.
The renovation of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway will increase its throughput capacity by increasing the number of lanes from three to five in both directions and establishing designated public transport lanes. It will also improve traffic safety by building pedestrian underpasses and overpasses.
There will be no traffic signals on the section of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway running from the MKAD to the city boundary.
The renovation project will primarily benefit the residents of the Severny District, where around 25,000 people live and where over 400,000 square metres of housing plus schools, childcare centres and outpatient clinics are planned to be constructed.
Moreover, Severny will also house a new innovative territorial cluster, PhysTech XXI, of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
The cluster will create 1,500 jobs and consist of a business centre, academic buildings, hotels, parking garages and sports facilities.
To preclude a bottleneck effect on the border of Moscow and the Moscow Region, the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) is working on a design to expand the Dmitrovskoye Motorway in the Moscow Region
