The sliding of the overpass superstructure at Businovskaya Transport Interchange (2013-2015)

The Businovskaya Transport Interchange is the first five-level transport interchange hub in Russia.

Interchange construction was the most large-scale infrastructure project on Moscow territory.

During the construction of the superstructure of the highest Businovskaya Interchange overpass (the height of the superstructure reaches a maximum of 35 meters above ground level), the sliding technology was used. The parts of the superstructure mounted on a fixture were moved into the designed position with the help of jacks. This is high-tech operation that requires complicated engineering calculations (taking into account the weight of the structure, motion path, the height of poles, span length, wind and temperature difference) and very precise execution.

An additional challenge during the project was the particularity of the architectural solution: the 243 meters long overpass was not designed in a straight line, but as an arc. The launch took place in four stages. Metallic blocks of the first stage were mounted on a fixture and were moved forward with jacks.

The second stage was then mounted on the fixture and welded on to the first, then two stages were moved and so on.

Moving structures that weigh over 3,000 tons in a well-calculated trajectory was accomplished with a speed of up to 30 meters per day. The installation of the overpass was completed in record time of four month (without interrupting traffic on the Moscow Ring Road). The construction work was done on time.
